RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a Belgian national after he attempted to flee the country to avoid paying compensation for damaging a rented motorcycle in a viral cliff-jumping stunt in Bali.

“We ensure there is no room for compromise for foreign nationals who violate regulations and attempt to evade legal processes,” Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Head Bugie Kurniawan said on Friday, April 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The 31-year-old Belgian, identified as SD,⁸ gained widespread attention on social media after jumping off a cliff, estimated to be around 100 meters high, into the sea at a beach in Ungasan Village, Badung Regency, Bali, while using a rented motorcycle.

Although the motorcycle did not fall into the sea, as it was tied to the cliff, it was severely damaged after hitting the rock face.

The stunt, carried out around March 23-24, 2026, was recorded by an Austrian friend and uploaded to social media, quickly going viral.

When the rental owner demanded compensation, SD refused, claiming he had no money. The owner then reported the case to immigration authorities, who summoned him for questioning.

Instead of resolving the issue, SD attempted to flee Indonesia by planning a route to Malaysia, first flying to Sorong in Papua, then transiting in Makassar before heading to Kuala Lumpur on March 30, 2026.

However, immigration officers at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar intercepted him and returned him to Bali under escort.

Following further examination at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, SD eventually paid compensation to the vehicle owner before being deported to Belgium via Doha from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Bugie stated that SD violated Article 75(1) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6/2011. In addition to deportation, he has been placed on a blacklist, preventing him from re-entering Indonesia for a specified period determined by the Directorate General of Immigration. ***
