RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is expanding its global science and technology partnerships, with Slovakia emerging as a key European partner in strategic sectors such as nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.
Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Slovak Embassy to Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education, research, and technology on Thursday, April 2, 2026, by opening wider opportunities for direct collaboration between leading institutions from both countries .
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Minister Stella Christie and Slovak Ambassador to Indonesia Tomas Ferko. Cooperation will focus on renewable and nuclear energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and food technology development.
Deputy Minister Stella highlighted that, in line with President Prabowo’s priority program on domestic energy sufficiency, nuclear energy is seen as one of the most promising solutions to address supply gaps, particularly outside the Java-Bali grid.
“In Indonesia, we actually have an oversupply of energy in the Java and Bali grid. However, we face shortages in many other regions. One of the most promising solutions is nuclear energy, which is crucial for areas outside the Java-Bali electricity system,” she said, as quoted on the ministry's official website.
She also emphasized Indonesia’s openness to scholarship collaborations in nuclear studies and other fields where Slovakia has expertise.
“We are ready to collaborate on scholarship schemes, from types of funding to selection processes and student recruitment,” she added.
Ambassador Tomas Ferko noted that the partnership will align closely with national priority programs. Both sides also explored cooperation in digital health transformation through artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
He further outlined potential joint projects, noting that up to 95 percent of proposed initiatives are aligned with government priority programs.
Through this partnership, Indonesia and Slovakia reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing science and technology as a foundation for sustainable development and stronger global competitiveness. ***
