RRI.CO.ID, Seoul Indonesia's president, Prabowo Subianto, continued his Asian tour by meeting South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Seoul on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. During the meeting at the Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), South Korean presidential palace, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of the relationship between his country and South Korea, which he described as highly strategic.

He also considers South Korea a close friend of Indonesia, and he hopes that cooperation between the two countries will continue to strengthen. Amid the current global situation, he believes the relationship between the two nations is becoming increasingly important.

"My state visit here comes at a situation where the world is full of uncertainty and danger. So, this makes the relationship between countries like Indonesia and Korea more important," he said, as quoted from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat.

"I wish that we will have the best relationship, and I would like to elevate our special strategic partnership that was agreed on in 2017 to be elevated to more comprehensive partnership," he said.

Meanwhile, President Lee announced that Indonesia–South Korea relations have been elevated to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the only partnership of its kind by South Korea.

"Taking this national visit by the President as an opportunity, we have achieved a historic outcome by elevating our relationship to the Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the only one of its kind in the Republic of Korea," Lee said.

Lee noted "significant concerns" regarding the impact of the war in the Middle East on energy supply chains and the regional economy. He said his country finds great reassurance in Indonesia’s role as a stable supplier of key energy sources, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal.

"To minimize the impact of this crisis on our economies and the lives of our people, there is a great need to expand cooperation regarding stable energy supplies and resource security," he said.

During his visit, President Prabowo presented a keris, a Javanese traditional weapon, to President Lee, while Lee presented Prabowo with South Korea’s highest order, the Grand Order of Mugunghwa. Prabowo also took a chance to see the taekwondo attraction by the South Korean army soldiers.

In addition, Prabowo also attended a state banquet and received South Korea’s highest honorary order, the Grand Order of Mugunghwa. He later returned home on Wednesday evening, concluding his nearly a week visit.
