RRI.CO.ID, New York — Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Umar Hadi, called for a swift, thorough, and transparent UN investigation into the Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that killed three Indonesian soldiers serving in the UNIFIL mission at the end of March 2026. The Indonesian government also urged the UN Security Council to monitor and firmly follow up on the investigation’s findings, as well as to ensure legal accountability for the perpetrators without granting immunity in cases involving attacks on peacekeepers.
“Let me be clear, we demand a direct investigation by the United Nations, not merely explanations from Israel,” Umar Hadi said.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the Situation in the Middle East on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Umar strongly condemned the attacks on UNIFIL personnel on March 29 and 30, 2026. Indonesia also called on all parties, including Israel, to cease aggression and comply with international law to ensure the safety of personnel and the protection of United Nations assets.
“A firm guarantee from all parties involved, including Israel, to uphold their obligations under international law and immediately stop aggressive actions that endanger UN personnel and assets,” Umar said.
He also stressed that the safety of peacekeepers must remain the top priority, including through emergency measures to strengthen personnel protection amid escalating conflict on the ground. Indonesia also urged the UN Security Council to reaffirm the principle of protecting peacekeepers and take concrete steps to ensure their safety from further attacks.
“The implementation of emergency measures by the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to ensure full protection for UNIFIL personnel, including reviewing security protocols and evacuation plans in case of urgent situations,” he said.
