RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The escalating violence in southern Lebanon has once again claimed the lives of United Nations peacekeepers, prompting Indonesia to issue a strong denunciation of the attacks.

Two members of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were killed and two others wounded when a convoy came under fire near Bani Haiyyan on Monday, March 30. The incident followed a separate artillery strike a day earlier that killed Indonesian peacekeeper Lance Corporal (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon and injured three of his compatriots.

“Indonesia mourns the loss of our peacekeepers, extends solidarity to the families left behind, and prays for the swift recovery of the wounded,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on X, monitored online from Jakarta on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The ministry stressed that repeated assaults on UNIFIL personnel are “utterly unacceptable” and underscored that the safety of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable. It added that the attacks cannot be viewed in isolation but reflect a deteriorating security environment in southern Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli military operations have placed UN personnel at grave risk.

Indonesia further emphasized that any act endangering UN peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unpunished. The government called for a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including the chronology of events and those responsible, insisting that full accountability be enforced.

The attack followed an earlier incident on Sunday, March 29, 2026, when artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr killed Indonesian peacekeeper Praka Farizal Rhomadhon and wounded three others -- Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan.

According to UN reports, Monday’s strike targeted a UNIFIL logistics convoy, resulting in two additional Indonesian fatalities and two injuries. With these losses, Indonesia has now seen three of its soldiers killed while serving on the UN mission in Lebanon within just two days.

This escalation has heightened concerns over the safety of UNIFIL personnel and the viability of their mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which Indonesia insists must be upheld despite mounting risks. ***
