RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — The Government of the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemned the second consecutive incident that occurred near Bani Haiyyan in southern Lebanon on March 30, 2026, affecting Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to two others. In a statement on Tuesday, the government said the repeated heinous attacks against Indonesian peacekeepers within a short period are unacceptable.

“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia condemns in the strongest terms the second consecutive incident near Bani Haiyyan, southern Lebanon, on 30 March 2026 affecting Indonesian peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL, resulting in the loss of two more lives and injuries to two others,” the statement said.

The government assessed that the incident cannot be treated as an isolated occurrence, but rather reflects a rapidly deteriorating security situation in southern Lebanon. Indonesia also strongly condemned Israeli military attacks in the area, which have increased risks to United Nations personnel and undermined the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).

“Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeepers and undermined the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006),” the ministry said.

The government also expressed deep condolences over the loss of its peacekeepers and extended solidarity to the bereaved families, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. It emphasized that the safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel are non-negotiable, and any harm against them constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unanswered.

Indonesia also called for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including those responsible, and stressed that full accountability must follow.
