RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Member of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR), Syamsu Rizal, responded to the United States' (U.S.) all-out military attack on Iran in late July. He urged the Indonesian government to take an active role in pushing for an end to the US attack on Iran.

The U.S. military launched strikes on several targets in Iran early Thursday morning, July 30, 2026. Washington described the attacks as retaliation for Iran's attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan.

"Indonesia must consistently advocate for an end to the attacks and urge all parties to exercise restraint. No problem can be resolved through prolonged war. Dialogue and diplomacy must be the primary options," Rizal, commonly called Deng Ical, said in a statement as quoted from the House's website on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

He asked the Indonesian government to utilize its strategic position in various international forums to garner support for a ceasefire, as the country has a constitutional mandate to participate in the world order based on independence, eternal peace, and social justice. He also urged the United Nations (UN) and the international community to immediately facilitate peace negotiations between the United States and Iran to prevent the conflict from escalating.

"Indonesia, along with the UN and friendly countries, must invite the United States and Iran to sit down at the negotiating table. A ceasefire must be implemented immediately to prevent further casualties," he said.

Syamsu further said the ongoing war not only impacts the countries involved. He said it also has major consequences for the global community.

"Civilians always suffer the most. Beyond the loss of life, this conflict will trigger a humanitarian crisis, disrupt regional stability, and increase global uncertainty," he stressed.

Deng Ical warned that an open conflict between the U.S. and Iran has the potential to worsen the international geopolitical situation. The impact could ripple through the global economy through supply chain disruptions, rising energy prices, and even pressure on the economies of various countries, including Indonesia.

"The war must not be allowed to drag on. The world needs peace, not escalating conflict. All parties must prioritize diplomacy to maintain stability and protect civilian lives," he said.
