RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The deepening partnership between Indonesia and Japan was on full display as President Prabowo Subianto met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The meeting, marked by a formal state ceremony, underscored the enduring friendship and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

Upon arrival, President Prabowo was greeted by Prime Minister Takaichi before the two leaders posed for photographs and proceeded to the Hagoromo-no-ma Hall, where the official welcoming ceremony took place.

Delegations from both countries lined up to honor the occasion, followed by the playing of national anthems and a salute from Japan’s honor guard. The leaders then inspected the troops and paid respect to each other’s flags, symbolizing mutual recognition of sovereignty and friendship.

After the ceremony, President Prabowo and PM Takaichi introduced their respective delegations before moving to the Asahi-no-ma Room for bilateral talks.

“President Prabowo Subianto and all delegates from the Republic of Indonesia, welcome to Japan. I am very pleased to meet with Your Excellency again,” PM Takaichi said, as quoted by Antara.

President Prabowo expressed gratitude for the hospitality and reflected on his audience with Emperor Naruhito the previous day. “I would like to extend my deepest thanks for the warm welcome from Your Excellency and the Government of Japan. I was also received with great honor by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito yesterday,” he said.

The leaders are scheduled to deliver a joint press statement in the Sairan-no-ma Room, followed by an official luncheon. The series of events highlights both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in ways that are mutually beneficial and sustainable.

President Prabowo was accompanied by key members of his cabinet, including Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir.

The meeting at Akasaka Palace reflects not only the ceremonial respect between Indonesia and Japan but also the shared determination to expand cooperation in trade, technology, education, energy, and environmental management, solidifying a partnership that has flourished for nearly seven decades. ***
