RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Nations has condemned a string of deadly attacks in Lebanon that claimed the lives of Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The incidents, which struck UNIFIL convoys and bases between March 29–30, left three Indonesian soldiers killed and several others wounded.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, issued a strong statement from UN Headquarters in New York, denouncing the attacks as “unacceptable” and stressing that peacekeepers must never be targeted. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen and to the Government of Indonesia, while wishing a swift recovery for the injured, Antara reported.

According to the UN, two Indonesian peacekeepers were killed when an explosion hit a UNIFIL logistics convoy near Bani Hayyan in eastern Lebanon on March 30. Two others were injured, one seriously. The attack came just a day after another Indonesian soldier was killed and one wounded when a projectile struck UNIFIL’s Ett Taibe base.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the casualties, identifying Lance Corporal (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon as killed in the March 29 artillery strike near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon. Three others Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan -- were injured.

The Indonesian Military (TNI) reported that the wounded personnel had been evacuated to medical facilities, with Praka Rico receiving intensive care at St. George Hospital in Beirut.

UNIFIL has launched an investigation into the attacks. Despite the dangerous conditions, Lacroix emphasized that UN peacekeepers remain committed to carrying out their Security Council mandate. He urged all parties to respect their obligations and ensure the safety of peacekeeping forces.

As of January 2026, Indonesia contributes 756 personnel to UNIFIL, underscoring its longstanding role in international peacekeeping. The recent losses highlight both the risks faced by peacekeepers and Indonesia’s sacrifice in supporting global stability. ***
