RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Thousands of Indonesians remain on waiting lists for jobs in South Korea, underscoring the high stakes for those selected to depart under limited quotas and rising global competition.

Deputy Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection, Christina Aryani, conveyed the message while briefing 45 fisheries-sector candidates leaving for Seoul under a government-to-government (G-to-G) scheme, urging them to safeguard Indonesia’s reputation.

“We are not alone. There are 16 other countries competing to send workers to Korea. That’s why we all share responsibility to maintain employer trust,” she said in a press statement from Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She stressed that reaching the deployment stage reflects a long and difficult process, with around 7,000 candidates still waiting due to limited labor demand in South Korea. Placement figures have also declined, from 10,110 workers in 2024 to about 6,860 in 2025, with projections of around 6,000 this year.

She highlighted the importance of maintaining Indonesia’s image as a source of friendly, honest, and hardworking labor, while also reminding workers of the economic benefits they could earn during their contracts.

At the same time, she warned against violations such as leaving assigned workplaces, which could damage both personal prospects and Indonesia’s standing abroad. “If rules are broken, the government cannot provide maximum protection. It will also affect Indonesia’s reputation and future opportunities for others,” she added.

She encouraged workers to use the opportunity wisely, particularly in managing their income for long-term benefits. “Not everyone can reach this stage. Use this opportunity well, avoid wasteful spending, and make your family and Indonesia proud,” she concluded. ***
