RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has issued a strong condemnation of Israeli military strikes in Southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper. The statement was released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Indonesia is calling on all parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while demanding an immediate end to assaults that endanger civilians and essential infrastructure.
“We urge a return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and to realize lasting peace. Indonesia remains in close coordination with the United Nations and relevant authorities, and will continue to monitor the situation meticulously." said Yvonne
The casualty occurred within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) contingent. On March 29, 2026, indirect artillery fire struck an Indonesian position near Adchit Al Qusayr. Yvonne explained that the incident took place amidst reported exchanges of fire between the Israeli military and armed groups in southern Lebanon.
"Indonesia strongly condemns this incident and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation," she emphasized.
Expressing deep mourning, the spokesperson remarked that the government offers its highest tribute to the fallen peacekeeper for their dedication to international security.
"Our prayers and sympathies are with the bereaved family, and we pray for the full recovery of those injured. Indonesia is working with UNIFIL to ensure the swift repatriation of the deceased and to provide the best medical care for the wounded," she said.
Yvonne concluded by reiterating that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers must be fully respected under international law. She stressed that any actions endangering peacekeepers are unacceptable and undermine collective efforts to maintain regional stability. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
