RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has extended its condolences following the death of a peacekeeper in southern Lebanon. The incident occurred amid escalating security tensions in the region.

In a written statement issued Monday, March 30, 2026, UNIFIL reported that one personnel was killed and another seriously injured. The peacekeeping mission said an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the attack.

The incident took place on March 29, 2026, when a UNIFIL position near Adchit Al Qusayr was hit during an exchange of artillery fire. The origin of the projectile has yet to be confirmed.

The Indonesian government confirmed that the casualties included Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the UNIFIL mission. One Indonesian soldier was killed, while three others sustained injuries.

According to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), one of the injured personnel is in critical condition, while two others suffered minor injuries and have received medical treatment.

The attack occurred amid intensifying clashes between Israeli forces and armed groups in southern Lebanon. The situation has raised concerns over the safety of peacekeeping personnel deployed in the area.

Indonesia strongly condemned the attack and called for a thorough and transparent investigation. The government also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of UN peacekeepers in accordance with international law.

Indonesia is among the largest contributors to the UNIFIL mission, currently deploying around 1,090 personnel in Lebanon. The government has urged all parties to end the violence and return to diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
