RRI.CO.ID, Geneva - The United Nations Human Rights Council strongly condemned the attacks carried out by Iran against its neighboring countries in the Gulf region and called for full and prompt reparations for the victims.

During a session held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, March 25, 2026, the Council approved a resolution proposed by six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) along with Jordan.

The non-binding resolution condemned Iran’s actions, which were seen as an attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, and demanded that Tehran immediately halt all unprovoked attacks.

President of the UN Human Rights Council Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro said the session was held as part of an urgent debate on the escalating conflict in the region.

“The urgent debate was held to address the evolving situation and its impact on countries in the Gulf region,” Sidharto said during the session.

Meanwhile, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk highlighted the humanitarian impact of the expanding conflict, with civilians bearing the brunt.

“Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure must stop. If carried out deliberately, such actions may constitute war crimes,” Türk said.

He also warned that disruptions to shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz could trigger global impacts, including on energy and food supply chains.

The UN Human Rights Council emphasized the importance of respecting international law and urged all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation in the region.
