RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Against a backdrop of global uncertainty, the Indonesian community in Turkey transformed the Wisma Duta in Ankara into a sanctuary of peace and national pride during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri celebrations.
Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Purnama, used the occasion to issue a powerful call for solidarity, urging the diaspora to maintain a culture of mutual care and support for global peace.
According to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara received in Jakarta on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Ambassador Rizal emphasized the significance of this year's Eid. He highlighted the weight of the moment as conflicts continue to impact various regions across the globe.
“Celebrating Eid al-Fitr amidst a world situation filled with conflict reminds us all of the vital importance of peace,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Addressing over 600 Indonesian citizens, including students and professionals, the Ambassador stressed that the festivities should transcend mere religious ceremony. Instead, he framed the occasion as a vital space to strengthen ties between the diaspora and their love for the homeland.
“I invite all Indonesian people, especially those in Turkey, to continue fostering concern and solidarity among fellow Indonesians and between nations,” added Rizal.
He further encouraged the community to contribute toward a more peaceful, just, and prosperous Republic of Indonesia.
The magnetic pull of "home" was evident in the sheer effort made by attendees. Some diaspora members traveled staggering distances to reach the capital, with groups arriving from Bursa, roughly 380 km away, and even Erzurum, located 800 km from Ankara.
For many, the high enthusiasm stemmed from a desire to recreate the familial atmosphere of Indonesia while living abroad.
The gathering also served as a bridge for international diplomacy, as the Eid prayer was attended by ambassadors from friendly nations, including Pakistan, Singapore, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Brunei Darussalam.
By hosting this diverse assembly on March 20, 2026, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara hopes the event will remain a cornerstone for preserving the values of togetherness and peace for all Indonesians residing in Turkey. ***
