RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Chairman of the Center for Islamic Studies in Finance, Economics, and Development (CISFED), Farouk Abdullah Alwyni, has urged the Indonesian government to take an active role in stopping the military aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran.
Farouk said the escalation of the conflict had gone beyond reasonable limits in international relations and threatened regional stability and the global order. At the same time, he noted, the situation provided an opportunity for countries committed to peace to act as a counterbalance.
In this context, Indonesia was seen as having the moral and historical legitimacy to play such a role. With its independent and active foreign policy principles, Indonesia was considered capable of serving as a mediating force to encourage dialogue and de-escalation.
“The ongoing escalation demonstrates a pattern of aggression that the international community can no longer tolerate,” Farouk said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, March 19, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed that Indonesia could not remain passive. As a country that upholds independence, justice, and world peace, Indonesia was deemed necessary to take a firm and dignified position.
Farouk specifically called on President Prabowo Subianto to take several strategic steps. He urged the government to remind the US that the use of military force without a legitimate legal basis violates international law and demanded an immediate halt to all forms of military aggression against Iran.
He also asked Indonesia to issue a firm, unambiguous condemnation of Israel, saying such a step was vital to maintaining the moral consistency of Indonesia’s foreign policy.
Furthermore, he encouraged the government to end its geopolitical and geoeconomic dependence on the US by strengthening cooperation with Muslim and developing countries and reinforcing national independence.
He added that Indonesia should take advantage of public opinion in the US, which he said did not fully support its country’s military involvement, as an opportunity to increase international moral and diplomatic pressure.
Farouk also emphasized the importance of promoting a more just and balanced multipolar world order to prevent the dominance of a single power. He encouraged Indonesia to serve as a diplomatic bridge, facilitating dialogue among Iran, the Gulf states, and other relevant parties to build regional stability through cooperation.
He concluded that, based on the principles of an independent and active foreign policy and the mandate of the constitution, Indonesia had a moral responsibility to help maintain world peace. “It is time for Indonesia to demonstrate its leadership, not merely as an observer, but as an active actor on the side of justice,” he said. ***
