RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated the country's position in response to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Iran, and Israel. He emphasized that Indonesia will not join any military alliance or bloc, whether Western or Eastern.
“We cannot be part of any military alliance. Indonesia consistently upholds the principle of an independent and active foreign policy,” President Prabowo stated, according to information released by the Communication Agency (Bakom) on Monday, March 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Indonesia’s adherence to this principle is rooted in the 1945 Constitution, which mandates the nation to remain non-aligned while actively contributing to global peace. The President stressed that Indonesia maintains good relations with all countries and upholds a defensive military posture. He added that Indonesia must build strong self-reliance in defense rather than depend on external powers.
“Indonesia stands on its own feet, without relying on the strength of other nations. When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone,” he said.
President Prabowo also highlighted the destabilizing impact of the Middle East conflict on global security and expressed his willingness to act as a mediator. “All parties must be willing to engage in dialogue to end the conflict. My advice is always to seek peaceful options,” he affirmed.
The conflict escalated after U.S. airstrikes on February 28, 2026, killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated by targeting Israel and U.S. military bases across the Middle East.
Most recently, Iranian drones struck Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates’ largest oil storage and port facility, sparking fires. Iran also attacked Dubai International Airport, disrupting flights.
Prabowo underscored that dialogue remains the only viable path forward, urging all sides to prioritize peace over escalation. (Diffa Sephiwardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
