RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Iranian Embassy in Jakarta emphasized that the election of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader demonstrates the strength of the country’s governance system, which it said is rooted in the rule of law, the will of the people, and divine values rather than reliance on any single individual.
Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei -- who was killed in a U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran -- secured more than 85 percent of votes from the Assembly of Experts, thereby becoming Iran’s third Supreme Leader. The embassy noted that the vote provided solace to the Iranian people, who were mourning while observing Ramadan.
In its statement released on Monday, March 9, 2026, the embassy stressed that despite the loss of a prominent leader, senior officials, and military commanders, Iran’s system of governance would continue with resilience under new leadership, committed to upholding truth and justice.
The Assembly of Experts, whose members are directly elected by the public for eight-year terms under Articles 107 and 108 of Iran’s Constitution, carried out its duties swiftly despite what the embassy described as conditions of risk and threat.
Meanwhile, on Monday morning, under Mojtaba Khamenei’s command, Iran launched the 30th phase of “Operation Loyal Promise 4” targeting areas in Israel.
The embassy reported that since the U.S.-Israeli offensive on February 28, more than 1,300 children and civilians have been killed and nearly 9,700 civilian targets destroyed, including homes, schools, medical facilities, and energy infrastructure.
It also cited the attack on Iran’s warship Dena, more than 2,000 nautical miles from Iran’s coast, which resulted in the deaths of 104 personnel. ***
