RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, underscored that any cooperation between Indonesia and Kuwait in the field of education must strictly adhere to national regulations. His remarks came during an audience with the Jamiyyah Khairiyah Foundation in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

The meeting focused on priority areas of collaboration, including the development of educational infrastructure and religious facilities, alongside support for Islamic outreach and learning in Indonesia. “I welcome this initiative, as its purpose is noble -- helping Islamic education and dakwah (preaching) in Indonesia,” Supratman said, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that compliance with regulations is essential to ensure projects deliver long-term benefits to communities. Requests for cooperation, often submitted under the auspices of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Jakarta, must undergo verification processes, including checks on waqf deeds, construction permits, and sustainability aspects.

Supratman noted that Kuwait, through its foundation, has already contributed significantly this year, building 15 mosques and several schools in underserved regions. “In just the past week, the foundation completed nine projects, including orphan dormitories and Qur’an memorization schools,” he added.

Jamiyyah Khairiyah’s General Manager, Abdulrahman Ali Zaid Mahfal, expressed hope that collaboration could expand to Indonesia’s eastern provinces such as Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua. He pledged readiness to support the construction of madrasahs, tahfiz houses, pesantren, and other facilities dedicated to education and Islamic outreach.

“For a quick process, we only require a minimum plot of 12x12 meters to establish a mosque,” he explained, while affirming the foundation’s commitment to comply with Indonesian legal requirements, including waqf documentation and building permits.

Both parties agreed to maintain communication and strengthen ties with legally recognized waqf institutions to ensure programs are implemented transparently and sustainably. The dialogue reflected not only formal cooperation but also a shared concern for expanding access to education and promoting moderate, inclusive religious values.

The focus on eastern Indonesia highlights a commitment to equitable development in regions still in need of support. The partnership is expected to serve as a bridge of goodwill between Indonesia and Kuwait, extending social and educational benefits to future generations while reinforcing bilateral friendship through humanitarian and educational initiatives. ***
