Calling Iran’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono Reoffers Mediation on Middle East Conflic

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, reaffirmed Indonesia’s intention to facilitate de-escalation efforts and peaceful dialogue regarding the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel during his conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, Sugiono said he had held a telephone conversation with Araghchi to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East.
“Indonesia stands ready to play a constructive role in advancing peace, including offering our willingness to facilitate dialogue or mediation,” the Indonesian foreign minister said regarding his discussion with his Iranian counterpart.
Sugiono explained that this constructive role is driven by a shared objective to prevent further escalation and to stop the loss of innocent civilian lives.

“Indonesia stands ready to play a constructive role in advancing peace, including offering our willingness to facilitate dialogue or mediation, with the common objective of preventing further escalation and stopping the unnecessary loss of innocent lives,” he said.
He also conveyed Indonesia’s call for all parties to exercise restraint and immediately pursue de-escalation. “Indonesia urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint and pursue immediate de-escalation,” the minister said.
In addition, Indonesia emphasized that respect for international law and the UN Charter must be upheld. The government views dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path toward regional stability.
