Dong said he was pleased to be visiting Indonesia again. He noted that the friendship between the two countries is currently very close.
“Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto, relations of both countries are at a new starting point. As a community with a shared future, China and Indonesia have common interests in maintaining security and development,” Dong said during a joint statement at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Building at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense in Central Jakarta on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Minister Dong called on Indonesia to share responsibility and said it was time to further reinforce defense cooperation.
“We will join hands to accelerate the modernization of our respective national defense capabilities, build a strong security shield for our respective development, and provide greater stability and certainty to a world full of changes and turbulence,” Dong said.
In addition, he said that defense cooperation between China and Indonesia has now become significantly different from the past, both in terms of depth and scope. According to Dong, the two countries have achieved fruitful results across various fields and at all levels.
“Minister Sjafrie and I will continue to maintain close communication, set the direction, and formulate measures to further deepen our cooperation. It can be said that cooperation between the two countries has broad prospects, with its quality and efficiency continuing to improve,” Dong conveyed.
He also called on Sjafrie to work together to thwart the malicious intentions of foreign powers. “And to set an example for countries of the Global South in pursuing a new model of defense cooperation,” Dong said.
Dong said the two countries would fully play their respective roles as guardians of regional stability and seek to create more opportunities for security cooperation within the ASEAN framework. They would also build positive momentum to maintain regional stability and prevent and contain actions that undermine the post-World War II international order.
“Minister Sjafrie and I firmly believe that, under the leadership and guidance of our respective heads of state, we can elevate relations between the two countries to a higher level,” Dong stated.
