RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has reiterated its readiness to help de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East, offering to facilitate dialogue and mediation amid the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono conveyed the message during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement he posted on X on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Minister Sugiono said the discussion focused on the escalating situation in the Middle East and reaffirmed Indonesia’s willingness to play a constructive role in promoting peace. “Indonesia is always ready to play a constructive role in encouraging peace, including expressing our desire to facilitate dialogue and mediation,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
He added that Indonesia’s position is driven by a shared desire to prevent further escalation and to stop civilian casualties. Jakarta has urged all parties to exercise restraint and immediately take steps toward de-escalation. He also emphasized that international law and the United Nations Charter must be respected by all sides. “Dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to achieving regional stability,” he added.
The latest round of diplomatic outreach comes in the wake of a dramatic surge in violence. On Saturday, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iran, hitting targets in Tehran and causing significant infrastructure damage as well as casualties, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran responded swiftly, launching waves of drone and missile attacks against Israel and U.S. facilities across several Gulf states.
In response to the conflict, Indonesia has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and reiterated its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore regional stability. In a separate statement posted on X on Saturday, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said President Prabowo Subianto is willing to travel to Tehran to mediate if all parties involved agree.
Indonesia’s move signals Jakarta’s intention to position itself as a neutral diplomatic actor seeking to reduce tensions in one of the world’s most volatile regions. ***
