RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Japanese Embassy in Jakarta has noted that Indonesians, particularly the Muslim community living in Japan, are increasingly recognized as hardworking, honest, and kind-hearted.
The acknowledgment comes amid a sharp rise in the number of Indonesian workers in Japan, which has now reached 180,000, making Indonesia the fastest-growing source of foreign labor in the country.
The statement was delivered by Myochin Mitsuru, Chargé d’Affaires Ad Interim of the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta, during a Ramadan iftar gathering with Indonesian Islamic leaders on Monday, March 2, 2026.
He admitted that, having only recently begun his posting in Jakarta, he is still getting to know the Indonesian Muslim community both at home and abroad.
“In fact, the increase is number one in Japan,” Myochin said, as quoted by Antara, emphasizing that the acceptance of Indonesian workers -- most of whom are Muslim -- reflects a broader openness among Japanese society.
He added that people in rural, traditionally conservative areas of Japan now welcome Indonesian Muslims, appreciating their diligence and sincerity.
The iftar event, held at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, brought together leaders from Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama, and academics from Islamic universities such as the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) and Paramadina University. The gathering was aimed at strengthening ties between Japanese society and Indonesian Muslim community. ***
