RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, urged member states of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) to firmly condemn the military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on 28 February. He said such a stance would represent concrete support expected by Tehran from D-8 members to help ease tensions in the Middle East.

“We hope that D-8, as an important organization, can strongly and clearly condemn the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against our country,” Boroujerdi said at a press conference in Jakarta on 2 March 2026.

According to Boroujerdi, a strong condemnation would be the first step that D-8 member states could take. He also expressed hope that the organization would take what he described as the right position and demonstrate a firm stance regarding the attacks on Iran.

“A serious condemnation is the first step. Once that is delivered, we can then discuss the next steps,” he said.

On Saturday, 28 February 2026, Israel launched strikes on Iranian territory. The attack was described as the second one, following a similar action involving Israel and the United States in June 2025.

U.S. President, Donald Trump, earlier claimed that American forces had carried out a major military operation in Iran, citing the need to protect U.S. interests and security, including eliminating what he described as threats posed by Iran’s alleged development of nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, D-8 is an economic cooperation organization of developing countries comprising Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, which officially joined in December 2024. As part of its chairmanship term, Indonesia is scheduled to host the 12th D-8 Summit in Jakarta in April 2026.
