RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining global stability amid escalating tensions in the Middle East that have pushed global oil prices higher. The government emphasized the importance of preparedness to mitigate potential economic impacts.

Former Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, warned that rising oil prices could disrupt fuel supplies if the conflict persists. “Oil prices will definitely rise — that is certain,” Kalla said in Jakarta, Sunday 1 March 2026.

He explained that prolonged instability in the region could interfere with shipping routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz. “If shipping routes are disrupted, it will affect our economy,” he stated.

Kalla noted that Indonesia imports a significant portion of its crude oil from the Middle East. He stressed that any interruption in supply chains would directly impact domestic fuel availability and prices.

Referring to reports of Iranian strikes targeting U.S. military facilities in Gulf countries, Kalla said broader regional instability could have ripple effects beyond the Middle East. He urged authorities to anticipate potential shortages if tensions continue.

“Our fuel reserves last around three weeks on average,” Kalla said. “After that, we may need to seek alternative supply sources.”

Global tensions escalated following reports of joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iranian targets on February 28, followed by retaliatory attacks. The developments have heightened concerns over oil supply security and volatility in global energy markets.

In response, the Foreign Ministry stated that President Prabowo Subianto is prepared to support diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring regional stability. The government reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to peace and constructive dialogue in addressing global challenges.
