RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has intensified contingency measures to safeguard its umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia as regional airspace closures disrupt flights across the Middle East.

Several neighboring countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and Syria, have reportedly closed their airspace, while Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan and Lebanon continue limited operations under heightened alert.

The situation has affected flight schedules for Indonesian pilgrims traveling to and from the kingdom.

Data from the government’s Umrah and Special Hajj Computerized Management System (SISKOPATUH) shows that around 58,873 Indonesian umrah pilgrims are currently in Saudi Arabia. Authorities say their condition remains monitored through close coordination with Indonesian missions and local officials.

To anticipate delays or cancellations that could leave pilgrims stranded, the Hajj Affairs Office (KUH) in Jeddah has formed three teams working in three shifts at Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (former Saudia terminal), and the Hajj Terminal.

“KUH has formed three teams working in three shifts and deployed them at three airport points. This step is to ensure assistance and coordination run optimally for pilgrims affected by flight schedule changes,” said a Technical Staff for Hajj adn Umrah Ministry at KUH Jeddah, Muhammad Ilham Effendy on Sunday, March 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Director General of Hajj and Umrah Administration Puji Raharjo urged calm among pilgrims.

“We urge all umrah pilgrims not to panic. Remain calm and continue coordinating with your respective Umrah Travel Organizers (PPIU) to obtain official and up-to-date information,” he said.

The government emphasized that conditions in Saudi Arabia remain safe and under control, and that coordination with airlines, travel organizers, and local authorities will continue to prioritize the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims. ***
