RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is finalizing preparations for the 12th Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) Summit, scheduled for April 15, 2026. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson II, Nabyl Mulachela, conveyed this in a press briefing at the ministry building in Jakarta on Friday, February 27.
“Regarding preparations for the D-8 summit, which will be held in April, we are continuing to make various internal preparations as well as preparations with member countries,” Nabyl said.
Indonesia's internal preparations as Chair of the D-8 include gathering confirmation of attendance from various participants, including heads of state, deputy heads of state, heads of government, and ministers from D-8 member countries. “We will periodically announce the guests who have confirmed their attendance when the time comes,” said Nabyl.
According to him, during preparations for the D-8 Summit, Indonesia is also focusing on ensuring that the five priorities as chair are properly implemented. “One of the five priorities concerns strengthening the internal reform of this organization, which is also important to ensure that the other four priorities can be implemented,” Nabyl said.
The 12th D-8 Summit under Indonesia's leadership will take place on April 15 in Jakarta. However, this event will be preceded by a Commissioner-level meeting on April 12-13 and a Foreign Minister-level meeting on April 14.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's leadership of the D-8 organization started on January 1, 2026. Indonesia's leadership focuses on strengthening solidarity and cooperation in the Global South, in line with its central theme, “Navigating Global Change, Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity.”
The five priorities of Indonesia's D-8 leadership are: economic and trade integration; halal economic development; blue economy and green transition; connectivity and digital transformation; and D-8 organizational reform.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has adopted the compass-and-guiding-light philosophy as the logo for the 2026 D-8 Leadership. One of its elements is derived from Indonesian and Sanskrit traditions, representing enlightenment, the right direction, and collective hope.
The D-8 was formed on June 15, 1997, in Istanbul, with a focus on cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, transportation, tourism, and industry. The D-8 currently has nine member countries, including Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
