RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy Marines have stepped up security patrols around Nipa Island, a small but strategic territory off Batam in the Riau Islands, to safeguard the nation’s maritime borders.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, was announced in an official statement received in Jakarta the following day.
“Nipa Island lies along one of the busiest international shipping lanes in the world and directly borders Singapore. That is why patrols are conducted there,” Marine Corps spokesperson Colonel (Mar) Rana Karyana said, as quoted by Antara.
The day’s activities began with a morning assembly and physical training to ensure personnel were fit for duty. Patrols then extended across Nipa’s waters and coastline, monitoring security conditions and tracking the movement of foreign warships passing nearby. Marines also inspected key points on land and along the shoreline to maintain control of the area.
Despite the ongoing Ramadan period, Rana emphasized that personnel remained fully committed to their mission. The patrols found no suspicious activity that could threaten Indonesia’s sovereignty.
He confirmed that Marine units will continue to be deployed to Nipa Island to ensure the border with Singapore remains secure and under control. ***
