RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta -Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Amman placed the Palestinian issue at the heart of discussions with King Abdullah II of Jordan, as both leaders underscored the urgency of addressing violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

The bilateral meeting, held Wednesday, February 25, 2016, at Basman Palace, was the centerpiece of Prabowo’s two-day agenda in the Jordanian capital.

President Prabowo voiced concern over recent incidents in the West Bank, warning that such developments could undermine peace initiatives in Gaza led by the Board of Peace.

"We are deeply worried about the incidents in the West Bank. They risk obstructing any progress we are trying to achieve in Gaza,” he told King Abdullah II.

The Indonesian president affirmed his government’s readiness to work closely with Jordan in seeking solutions. “We want to strengthen and expand this cooperation. My team will coordinate closely with Your Majesty’s team so we can anticipate every situation together,” Prabowo said.

King Abdullah II, opening the meeting, praised Indonesia’s consistent support for the Palestinian cause.

“Your commitment to the future of the Palestinian people is deeply appreciated. It is heartening to see your dedication to peace and stability. Your courageous stance in protecting the Palestinian people is very important to us,” the King remarked.

The bilateral session followed a private one-on-one meeting between the two leaders earlier in the day.

President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

King Abdullah II was joined by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, senior officials, and military leaders.

The talks highlighted Indonesia’s role in advocating for peace and Jordan’s position as a key regional partner, reinforcing both nations’ shared commitment to supporting Palestinians amid ongoing challenges in Gaza and the West Bank. ***
