RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia together with seven other Islamic countries strongly condemned Israel’s decision to designate land in the occupied West Bank as so-called “state land” and approve procedures for the registration and settlement of land ownership across extensive areas of the West Bank for the first time since 1967.
In a joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, the move was described as an illegal action that could accelerate settlement activity, land confiscation, and further entrench Israeli control over the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The statement delivered through the social media account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, stressed that the policy constitutes a serious escalation that undermines the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The ministers also stated that the policy violates international law and international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, especially Resolution 2334.
In addition, the decision was considered contrary to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of measures aimed at altering the legal, historical, and demographic status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the obligation to end the occupation, and the prohibition on acquiring territory by force.
The ministers called on the international community to take decisive steps to halt the violations, ensure respect for international law, and safeguard the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
