RRI.CO.ID, New York – Foreign Minister Sugiono is in New York from February 16 to 18, 2026, to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting titled “The Situation in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question (MEPQ).”
The Foreign Ministry said his participation in the UNSC session underscores Indonesia’s commitment to actively contributing to peace and humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s official website, Minister Sugiono is expected to highlight Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace, which the ministry described as a reflection of the country’s long-standing “free and active” foreign policy.
Indonesia supports a just and sustainable peace based on a two-state solution and reaffirms its support for the Palestinian people.
In addition to attending the Security Council meeting, Sugiono is scheduled to hold talks with the United Nations Secretary-General and the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the UN to discuss next steps to advance peace efforts in Palestine.
He is also set to meet with the United Kingdom’s foreign secretary, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council for February 2026.
During his visit, Minister Sugiono is expected to extend invitations to the upcoming D-8 Summit, which Indonesia will host in Jakarta in April 2026. The visit marks Indonesia’s continued diplomatic engagement on the Palestinian issue at the multilateral level. ***
