RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto’s attendance at the inaugural Board of Peace (BoP) forum in Washington DC prompted Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sukamta, to formally request that the President strongly advocate for Palestinian sovereignty and civil safety.
Speaking from Jakarta on Monday, February 16, 2026, Sukamta underscored that Indonesia’s historical and constitutional commitment requires the President to push for a dignified two-state solution while attending the summit in the American capital. This diplomatic push is intended to ensure that post-conflict recovery in Palestine respects the rights of its people, aligning Indonesia’s national interests with the pursuit of a just global order.
Sukamta emphasized that stability and security are the primary prerequisites for a sustainable peace process for the people of Gaza, Palestine. He expressed belief that the Indonesian government should use this high-level forum to strengthen its diplomatic standing on the global stage.
"The government can utilize this momentum to reaffirm Indonesia's position as a nation that consistently fights for peace, justice, and humanity," said Sukamta in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by Antara.
He further urged the government to reiterate Indonesia's support for full Palestinian independence through a two-state solution that is just, dignified, and in accordance with international law. The forum should serve as a strategic space to reinforce these long-standing commitments to the Palestinian cause.
Sukamta also highlighted the importance of ensuring that any post-conflict reconstruction and recovery agendas align with the rights of the Palestinian people and principles of sovereignty.
He argued that a solid peace must be built upon the foundation of justice rather than just a temporary cessation of hostilities. "Every step of our diplomacy must, of course, be based on Indonesia's national interests while remaining consistent with our historical commitment to the struggle for Palestinian independence," he said.
Sukamta reminded the public that President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at the Board of Peace forum is a vital opportunity to strengthen Indonesia's active role in promoting world peace as mandated by the constitution. He noted that Indonesia's participation in the forum is a clear contribution toward creating a more stable and just world order.
The legislator concluded that global stability based on international law has a direct impact on Indonesia's own security and national interests. "From the perspective of national interest, global stability based on international law also has a direct impact on Indonesia's own security and interests," he remarked. ***
