RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has reassured Jakarta that bilateral relations with Tehran remain mutually beneficial, urging Indonesia not to be concerned about potential tariff threats from the United States.

“We tell Indonesia not to be afraid. They cannot do anything. Any company or country that maintains regular relations with Iran will gain many benefits,” Boroujerdi said, as quoted by Antara on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Earlier in January, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on all countries continuing trade with Iran. Responding to this, Boroujerdi noted that more than 100 nations currently maintain economic ties with Iran without facing significant issues from Washington.

“All independent countries believe the United States is not the ruler of the world. They cannot dictate their rules to sovereign nations like Indonesia,” he stressed.

Boroujerdi acknowledged that sanctions have posed challenges for Iran but emphasized that such measures are not new. For over 47 years, Iran has faced heavy U.S. sanctions yet continues to strengthen its economy and advance in education, technology, and industry.

“Compare Iran today with Iran 75 years ago, you will see tremendous progress in every sector,” he said.

The ambassador argued that global powers cannot simply impose their will on the international community and encouraged nations to deepen cooperation with Iran despite external pressure.

He admitted that trade restrictions in recent years have affected the global economy but expressed confidence that independent countries like Indonesia and Iran should continue regular economic cooperation to prevent worsening conditions.

“To overcome this difficult era, countries must expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Iran and show the U.S. that it cannot dictate rules to the entire world,” Boroujerdi said.

He concluded that while the U.S. may set policies for itself, it cannot impose regulations on the modern global order. ***
