RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - China has expressed hope that the ceasefire in Gaza will be implemented effectively, while also acknowledging Indonesia’s plan to deploy security forces to Palestine.
“We hope the ceasefire agreement in Gaza can be carried out effectively, that a full and lasting truce can be achieved, the humanitarian crisis addressed, and regional stability restored as soon as possible,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian during a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, February 12, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously announced preparations to send around 8,000 troops to Gaza through the International Stabilization Force (ISF). Officials emphasized that Indonesia’s involvement would focus on humanitarian aspects rather than disarmament.
The ISF was established under a UN Security Council resolution on November 17, 2025, proposed by the United States. It authorizes UN member states and the Board of Peace (BoP) to form a temporary stabilization force in Gaza under unified command, with authority to take necessary measures under international law.
The resolution also stipulates that Israel will withdraw its forces once the ISF assumes full control. Lin Jian reiterated China’s stance that a two-state solution remains the fundamental path to resolving the Palestinian issue.
“China opposes settlement construction in occupied Palestinian territories, any attempt to annex or violate Palestinian land, and actions that undermine the political foundation of the two-state solution,” he said, warning that the situation in Gaza remains fragile.
According to the resolution, ISF responsibilities include securing border areas, stabilizing Gaza’s security environment, protecting civilians, coordinating humanitarian corridors, and overseeing demilitarization.
The force will operate under BoP’s strategic guidance and be funded through voluntary contributions from donors, BoP resources, and participating governments. Indonesia is among the signatories of the Peace Council Charter, which underpins BoP, signed in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026.
Current BoP members include Indonesia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Qatar, and several other nations, led by the United States. Notably, major European powers such as France, Germany, and the UK, as well as UN Security Council members China and Russia, are not part of the group.
Indonesia’s participation, according to its Foreign Ministry, reflects a commitment to supporting peace in Palestine consistent with the two-state solution.
Since the conflict erupted in October 2023, more than 71,000 people - mostly women and children - have been killed in Gaza, with over 171,000 injured. Despite the ceasefire agreed on October 10, 2025, violations continue, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting at least 464 Palestinians killed and nearly 1,280 wounded in Israeli attacks since the truce began. ***
