RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Pakistan has pledged full support for Indonesia’s leadership of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, ahead of the upcoming summit in Jakarta this April.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia, Zahid H. Chaudary, made the remarks at the Presidential Palace complex on Thursday, February 12, 2026, reaffirming his country’s commitment to Indonesia’s role in the organization.
“Pakistan and Indonesia are both founding members of the D-8, and Pakistan has high expectations for Indonesia’s leadership in this organization,” Zahid said, as quoted by Antara.
Indonesia is set to lead the D-8 for the 2026-2027 period, with a formal handover scheduled during the forthcoming summit. Under its leadership, Indonesia will advance the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity,” emphasizing equality, solidarity, and cooperation in line with the principles of the Bandung Spirit (Dasasila Bandung).
Highlighting Indonesia’s crucial role, the Pakistani ambassador said his country is ready to assist in ensuring the success of its D-8 leadership. “We look forward to working closely with Indonesia, not only for the upcoming summit but also for the overall success of D-8 as an organization,” he explained.
Ambassador Zahid also stressed that collaboration between Indonesia and Pakistan should extend beyond the D-8 framework. Representing more than a quarter of the world’s Muslim population, the two countries bear a strategic responsibility to strengthen bilateral cooperation and engage actively in international forums.
“It is important for both countries to work together bilaterally, as well as through all available platforms, including the UN, OIC, D-8, and ASEAN,” he added. ***
