RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - Police at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport detained a Pakistani national following a family dispute that erupted at the premium pick-up lane of Terminal 3, an incident that quickly went viral on social media.

Deputy Chief of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, AKBP Ida Bagus Widwan Sutadi, confirmed the disturbance, explaining that the altercation stemmed from tensions between two family groups.

“It is true, as seen in the viral video, there was a family dispute. The woman identified as SAP had just arrived from Colombo on a SriLankan Airlines flight and landed at Soekarno-Hatta,” Widwan said on Monday, February 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to him, the confrontation occurred directly in front of the premium pick-up lobby, involving SAP’s relatives and her husband’s family from Pakistan. “It was a small family quarrel that happened to spread online,” he noted.

Airport security officers and Terminal 3 police quickly intervened to prevent disruption in the area. The parties were later brought to the airport police station after objections were raised by SAP’s relatives. “They consulted regarding allegations made against her husband. The matter was eventually resolved amicably within the family,” Widwan added.

He also clarified that rumors circulating online about alleged fraud involving Indonesian women remain unsubstantiated. “There has been no official report. If necessary, we will investigate further, but for now the issue has been settled within the family,” he said.

The Pakistani man was detained on Saturday, February 7, 2026, after the incident drew public attention. In video footage shared online, a woman could be seen embracing the man as officers escorted him away.

Separately, the premium pick-up service at Soekarno-Hatta has come under scrutiny. The House of Representatives' Commission VII recently criticized the IDR 150,000 (USD 9) fee per 30 minutes, arguing that such costs dampen Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness.

“High tariffs like this discourage both domestic and international visitors. Efficiency and competitiveness are crucial, especially since Soekarno-Hatta is the country’s main gateway,” said Lamhot Sinaga, head of the commission’s specific working visit team, during an inspection on January 15, 2026.

Lamhot emphasized that the airport’s central role makes pricing particularly sensitive. “Except for Bali, which has direct international flights, most travelers pass through Soekarno-Hatta. The premium pick-up fee is simply too expensive,” he concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
