RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru has stepped in to protect three Indonesian domestic workers allegedly abused by their employer in Malaysia, after a video of the violence went viral on social media.
In a statement received in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, June 14, the consulate confirmed that the victims--identified by their initials YY, SH, and YA--were subjected to repeated mistreatment, Antara reported.
Two of them, YY and SH, have been placed under protection at the consulate’s temporary shelter, while YA had already relocated to Kuala Lumpur before the video surfaced.
The case came to light on June 13, when YY reported the abuse through the consulate’s KSATRIA service. The victims, who were working without proper documentation and whose passports were withheld by their employer, had previously been abandoned in Johor after suffering physical violence. Fear of legal repercussions initially prevented them from filing complaints.
Following YY’s report, the consulate coordinated with local police, who have since detained four suspects. Efforts are also underway with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to secure YA’s protection. Legal assistance and police reporting will be facilitated to ensure the victims’ rights are upheld.
The consulate urged Indonesian nationals to follow official procedures when seeking employment abroad to guarantee legal and labor protections. It also reminded workers in Johor Bahru to use the KSATRIA hotline (+60105288040) for assistance.
The case is being handled jointly by the consulate, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry, the Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), and the embassy in Kuala Lumpur to ensure comprehensive protection and legal support for the victims. ***
