RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a solemn ceremony on Monday, February 9, 2026, to honor the late Ambassador to the Philippines, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Agus Widjojo, who passed away at the age of 78 in Jakarta on Sunday evening, February 8, at 8:15 p.m. local time.

His casket, draped in the national flag, was placed in the ministry's Hall of Flags at the Pancasila Building, where senior officials and dignitaries gathered to pay their respects. Agus Widjojo died at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital, located near the Foreign Ministry complex, after receiving medical treatment.

Foreign Minister Sugiono, who led the tribute, described Agus Widjojo’s passing while serving as ambassador in Manila as a profound loss. “We have lost a figure of unwavering dedication and resilience in his service to the nation, including in his role as ambassador,” he said.

Minister Sugiono noted that Agus Widjojo had worked tirelessly to strengthen bilateral ties between Indonesia and the Philippines until his final days. The ceremony concluded with military honors. The foreign minister personally conveyed condolences to Agus Widjojo’s family before saluting the casket.

Other high-ranking officials present included Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra; Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir; Presidential Adviser on Politics and Security Wiranto; and Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) Ace Hasan Syadzily.

Following the tribute, Agus Widjojo’s casket was escorted from the Pancasila Building to an ambulance bound for Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta, where he was laid to rest.

Agus Widjojo’s distinguished career spanned the military and public service. After serving in the Indonesian Army, he became Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from 2001 to 2003, later leading Lemhannas from 2016 to 2022. President Joko Widodo appointed him as Indonesia’s ambassador to the Philippines, a post he held until his death. ***
