RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Agus Widjojo, has passed away at the age of 78, according to a statement released by the Indonesian Embassy in Manila on Monday, February 9, 2026. He died on Sunday night at 8:15 Jakarta time at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Central Jakarta.

“The entire Indonesian Embassy in Manila prays that the late Agus Widjojo is accepted for his good deeds, forgiven for all his shortcomings, and that the family he leaves behind is granted strength, patience, and sincerity,” the embassy said in its condolence message, as quoted by Antara.

Agus Widjojo was appointed Indonesia’s ambassador to the Philippines, concurrently accredited to the Marshall Islands and Palau, by President Joko Widodo on January 12, 2022. His appointment was formalized through Presidential Decree No. 4/P/2022. He was sworn in alongside ambassadors to Sudan and New Zealand.

Born on June 8, 1947, Agus Widjojo was the son of Major General Sutoyo Siswomiharjo, one of the senior military officers killed during the September 30, 1965, coup attempt. A graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy in 1970, he served in the Army for more than three decades until his retirement in 2003.

Toward the end of his military career, he represented the TNI/Police faction as Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from 2001 to 2003.

In 2016, President Jokowi appointed him Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas), a post he held until 2022 before taking up his ambassadorial assignment in Manila. ***
