RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is ramping up efforts to strengthen higher education quality through transnational collaboration, including partnerships with the United Kingdom.

Indonesian Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, said in Jakarta on Friday, February 6, 2026, that the initiative aims to equip Indonesian students with globally competitive skills while expanding opportunities for dual-degree programs.

Minister Brian highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto emphasizes the development of superior human resources as part of the Asta Cita vision, which includes improving the quality of universities.

“The Indonesian government remains committed to providing broad access to education, including multilateral transnational programs,” Minister Brian said, as quoted by Antara, noting that transnational education is a recurring topic in bilateral meetings between Indonesia and the UK.

One notable milestone was the meeting between President Prabowo and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which underscored the importance of educational cooperation.

He also praised Indonesian universities that are actively exploring international collaboration. A prominent example is the partnership between Padjajaran University and the University of Dundee, enabling students to earn dual degrees, particularly in life sciences fields such as medicine.

“I am pleased to see the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Padjajaran University and the University of Dundee for joint programs," the Minister said.

"Alongside other international programs that are growing significantly, we hope these collaborations will continue to strengthen Indonesia’s higher education and research,” he added.

Supporting this view, United Kingdom Government International Education Champion Steve Smith noted that transnational education is expanding globally, providing opportunities for people to share cultures and experiences.

“Universities that have implemented such systems demonstrate the potential that exists if governments prioritize transnational education,” Smith said. ***
