RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The world is paying close attention to the formation of the Board of Peace. President Prabowo Subianto specifically invited former ministers and vice ministers of foreign affairs, as well as other foreign policy figures, to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday, 4 February 2026.

The three-hour meeting focused on aligning perceptions regarding Indonesia's foreign policy, particularly Indonesia's position on membership in the Board of Peace, which is currently in the spotlight. After the closed meeting, former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda and former Vice Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal gave a press statement on the important points discussed.

Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda stated that President Prabowo emphasized the crucial role of Indonesia, along with seven other Muslim-majority countries, as a balancing force in the Board of Peace.

“The eight (Islamic) countries could become a balancing force within the Board of Peace, including in the decisions that will be made by this organization. There are concerns that Trump will play an extraordinary, uncontrollable role, but at least these eight countries can balance the process within the Board of Peace,” Hassan said.

Furthermore, the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia appreciates President Prabowo's firm stance. As Dino emphasized, Indonesia is prepared to take extreme measures to withdraw from the Board of Peace if the organization is no longer aligned with the principles and interests of the country.

Dino stated, “But what I like most, and this is also in line with the position of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, is that we are entering cautiously and continuing to hold on to the option of being able to exit if this goes against our principles and interests. He emphasized this many times, saying that he would not hesitate.”

Responding to the results of the discussion, Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the meeting was very open through two-way dialogue. Various constructive inputs from diplomatic figures are expected to strengthen the direction of foreign policy that the government is formulating on the global stage.
