Australia Celebrates First International Outing

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Marking the Royal Australian Navy’s first international visit of the year, HMAS Toowoomba has docked in Tanjung Priok on 3 February 2026. It commemorated the new era in the Australian-Indonesian relationship and the major extension of our existing security and defence cooperation.

HMAS Toowoomba will spend four days in Jakarta, allowing its officers and sailors the chance to connect with their Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) partners.

Commanding Officer HMAS Toowoomba Commander, Alicia Harrison, has expressed her thanks to thes Indonesian Navy for being such gracious hosts, supporting her crew, and providing them with the opportunity to explore a part of this beautiful nation. 

“We enjoy a strong partnership with Indonesia and by working together we contribute to the collective security of the Indo Pacific and a peaceful, prosperous and stable region,” CMDR Harrison said.

In addition, CMDR Harrison emphasized how our navies share a long standing, trusted relationship. One reinforced by regular exercises, staff talks, port visits, and senior leader engagement.

“These visits are an invaluable chance to build closer friendships across all ranks be that on the sporting fields or out on the water. Those relationships improve interoperability; they further our commitment to excellence and enable our continued safe and professional cooperation.”

According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia, on Thursday 5 February 2026, the HMAS Toowoomba’s visit to Indonesia is the first of several port visits to partner nations as part of Australia’s Indo Pacific Regional Presence Deployment, reflecting our shared commitment to a stable, secure and prosperous region.

At 118 meters in length, HMAS Toowoomba is an Anzac-class frigate, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles and a maximum speed of more than 27 knots. It’s armed with an MK 45 5-inch automatic rapid fire gun, 9LV453 MK3E combat data system, MK 41 VLS vertical launch system, four 12.7mm QCB heavy machine guns, with a crew capacity of 177 officers and sailors.
