RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sugiono, stated that Indonesia supports Slovakia’s aspiration to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). He said Indonesia and Slovakia share common values, principles, and aspirations in upholding peace, stability, and the prosperity of their peoples, making it important to enhance international cooperation, including through TAC membership.

“We also discussed global dynamics and developments in our respective regions, and we found that we share the same values, the same principled background, the same aspirations toward peace and stability, as well as toward the prosperity of our people,” Sugiono conveyed during a joint statement with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.

In addition, Sugiono mentioned that Indonesia’s support for Slovakia’s accession to TAC reflects both countries’ commitment to upholding international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

On the same occasion, Slovak Foreign Minister, Juraj Blanar, described international law as the strongest “weapon” of Indonesia and Slovakia in addressing global dynamics.

“I came to Indonesia to strengthen our bilateral cooperation, not only in political terms but also in the economic aspect of our relationship, and also to strengthen our cooperation in the ASEAN region, where Indonesia plays a key role,” Blanar said.

He also stated that Slovakia is ready to contribute to the ASEAN region and emphasized that the Indo-Pacific is a key focus of Slovakia’s foreign policy. According to him, Indonesia is a very important partner in the region.

Responding to this, Director General for the Americas and Europe at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, said Slovakia’s intention to join TAC represents an initial step in the country’s strategy toward Southeast Asia. She added that Slovakia has formulated its Indo-Pacific strategy, and Indonesia will convey its support for Slovakia’s aspiration to join TAC to ASEAN partners.

“Amid global uncertainty, the ASEAN region is becoming increasingly attractive to European countries seeking to build economic cooperation,” Grata said after the bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister, Sugiono and Foreign Minister, Juraj Blanar.

The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) is a foundational ASEAN agreement signed in 1976, emphasizing respect for sovereignty, the principle of non-interference, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
