RRI.CO.ID, Yangon – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MoFA RI) has once again facilitated the repatriation of 91 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Myawaddy, Myanmar. They had previously been trapped in conflict areas and online scam syndicates.
Through the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, the government repatriated the citizens on Friday, 30 January 2026, at 5:30 AM local time using commercial flights.
“The repatriation was the result of a lengthy and intensive process carried out by the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok in handling cases involving Indonesian citizens trapped in conflict zones and online scam syndicates,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a written release received on Friday.
The ministry stated the latest repatriation marked the fourth wave of evacuations from Myawaddy, following the third wave carried out on 21–22 January 2026.
During the process, MoFA also coordinated with various domestic stakeholders to ensure that law enforcement and preventive measures were implemented effectively.
Coordination was conducted with, among others, the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), the Criminal Investigation Agency of the National Police, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center, the Directorate General of Immigration, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Several of the repatriated Indonesian citizens also expressed their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by reporting parties suspected of recruiting them and leading to their involvement in online scam syndicates.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again urged Indonesian citizens to always follow official procedures when seeking employment abroad and to comply with the laws and regulations of the host country in order to avoid the risks of exploitation and transnational crime.
