RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) Taruna Ikrar in Jakarta, on Wednesday, 28  January  2026,  stated BPOM’s commitment to contributing to national economic growth of up to eight percent during the 25th Anniversary of BPOM.

Taruna Ikrar stated that BPOM is targeting a tangible contribution to national economic growth through its strategic role in drug and food supervision. He emphasized that BPOM is a vital authority with an important position in supporting national development.

“At our 25th anniversary, we would like to state that the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) wants to contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth of eight percent, because we are a very important entity, a very vital authority in contributing to our country,” Taruna Ikrar conveyed.

Taruna Ikrar explained that as a regulator, BPOM has the authority to formulate regulations, carry out policy reforms, and ensure the safety, quality, and effectiveness of drugs and food. These authorities are exercised to protect the Indonesian public from potential risks posed by drug and food products.

On the same occasion, Taruna Ikrar also revealed BPOM’s achievement in obtaining the World Health Organization Listed Authority (WLA) status as a country with high-performing drug and vaccine regulatory systems. This status places BPOM on par with drug and food regulatory agencies in developed countries.

“We have already reached our target to become a WHO Listed Authority. That is really amazing because we are now equal to the U.S. FDA, equal to the European FDA, and equal to developed countries,” he said. “We are no longer behind them; we are at the same level.”

Taruna Ikrar added that the WLA achievement serves as a foundation for BPOM to implement the highest regulatory standards while also contributing to the development of science and technology. He expressed hope that the 25th Anniversary of BPOM would become a momentum to strengthen BPOM’s role in public protection, health sector development, and national economic growth.
