RRI.CO.ID, Taiwan - Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Taiwan can now pay for passport services at convenience stores throughout Taiwan. Payments can be made at 7-Eleven, Family Mart, Hi-Life, and various other convenience stores.
This was made possible by the launch of the "Digital Payment System for Passport Services" at the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (IETO) Taipei in Taiwan. The system was launched on Monday, 26 January 2026 and went live immediately.
In an official statement received by RRI Voice Of Indonesia on Tuesday evening, 27 January 2026, the launch at the IETO Taipei office coincided with the 76th Immigration Service Day, which carried the theme "Immigration Serves, Indonesia Advances." The number of Indonesian citizens, which continues to increase annually in Taiwan, requires IETO Taipei to continue innovating in its services to Indonesian citizens.
"Paying for passport services through minimarkets is an innovation to improve service, making it easier, faster, and more efficient," Head of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) in Taipei, Arif Sulistiyo stated at the launch.
Before this system was launched, Indonesian citizens in Taipei only had one option to pay for passport services: directly at Chang Hwa Bank. Therefore, the digital payment system at minimarkets will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to apply for passports at the KDEI in Taipei.
According to Taiwan Immigration data, the number of Indonesian citizens arriving in Taiwan has been increasing every year. Over the past five years (2021–2025), the increase has reached 70 percent. According to him, the KDEI in Taipei serves 300 - 400 people daily for passport applications and endorsements.
"A system is absolutely necessary to serve the growing number of Indonesian citizens," Sulistiyo stated.
In addition to the launch of the passport service payment system, a collaboration ceremony for the "Development of a Digital-Based Service System" was also held at the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (IETO) in Taipei on the same day. This collaboration was forged through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Arif and Managing Director of PT Telekomunikasi Internasional Indonesia Taiwan (Telin Taiwan) Kartia Rausen Irwandi.
The event was also attended by General Manager of Bank Rakyat Indonesia Taipei Branch Andik Kurniawan, representatives of Indonesian community organizations in Taiwan, students, and members of the Indonesian diaspora. The Digital Payment System for Passport Services is a digital product that further complements the digitalization of IETO Taipei's digital services.
In 2024, IETO Taipei launched the "Endorsement System V3" for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) services. This system simplifies the processing of PMI documents without requiring a visit to the IETO Taipei office.
