Indonesia: BoP Remains Aligned with Its Purpose

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, stated that Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace is a concrete step. He said the country can take to ensure that the organization continues to operate in line with its primary objective, which is to create peace in Gaza, Palestine.

He made the statement after a hearing with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

“And this is a concrete step which, in our view, is realistic and can be taken by Indonesia and other countries to ensure that the Board of Peace continues to operate in line with its main objective, as the Board of Peace itself was established as part of efforts to create peace in Gaza,” Sugiono conveyed.

The minister also mentioned the involvement of the United States in the Board of Peace. According to him, from the outset, the Board of Peace was established at the request of countries grouped under the Group of New York, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

He further explained that the Board of Peace is an initiative of the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump. Currently,  23 countries are recorded as members of the organization, including Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, said that Indonesia’s contribution to the Board of Peace is still linked to a number of bilateral agreements between Indonesia and the United States, which are currently under discussion.
