RRI.CO.ID, Phnom Penh – The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Phnom Penh has recorded a total of 2,493 Indonesian citizens who have reported directly in connection with the Cambodian government’s efforts to eradicate online scam syndicates. According to a statement from KBRI Phnom Penh on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, the data were recorded from 16 to 26 January  2026, at 11 PM local time.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Phnom Penh continues to carry out intensive handling measures, including data collection, case assessment, and the issuance of Emergency Travel Documents (SPLP) for Indonesian citizens who do not possess valid travel documents. A number of Indonesians who have valid travel documents and are not subject to immigration fines have reportedly returned to Indonesia independently.

Meanwhile, Indonesians who have been facilitated with temporary travel documents as well as applications for immigration fine waivers have reportedly purchased tickets independently, including 46 Indonesians who are scheduled to return to Indonesia on January 30, 2026.

To strengthen coordination on security and the handling of Indonesian citizens, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, on Monday, 26 January 2026 held a meeting with the Deputy Chief of the Cambodian National Police as well as the Chief of Phnom Penh Police, Lieutenant General Chuon Narin. During the meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador conveyed his appreciation for the support of the Cambodian government, including the provision of temporary shelters and enhanced security at the Indonesian Embassy and WNI shelter locations.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Chuon Narin expressed his hope that all Indonesians who have recently exited online scam networks would be able to return to Indonesia as soon as possible. He emphasized that the Phnom Penh Police would continue to monitor the security conditions of Indonesian citizens and coordinate preventive measures against the potential spread of infectious diseases amid the increasing number of Indonesians at shelter locations, said Chuon Narin.

The Phnom Penh Police will also take special measures to ensure that the arrival of foreign nationals in the Cambodian capital after leaving online scam centers does not disrupt public order.

Following the meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador visited the shelter location and met with 19 Indonesian citizens currently being handled by the Phnom Penh Police. A number of Indonesians who already have passports have reportedly purchased tickets to return to Indonesia soon, while others will be facilitated with temporary travel documents.

KBRI Phnom Penh has urged Indonesian citizens to remain patient and comply with all ongoing procedures. Indonesians who already have passports or have been facilitated with Emergency Travel Documents are requested to prepare for their return to Indonesia independently.

Families of Indonesian citizens in Indonesia are also advised to follow developments through trusted media outlets as well as official releases and social media accounts of KBRI Phnom Penh, and to remain vigilant against potential scams conducted in the name of KBRI Phnom Penh.
