RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Council on World Affairs (ICWA) has called on the government to reconsider Indonesia’s membership in the Gaza Peace Board (BoP), an initiative established by U.S. President Donald Trump.

ICWA argued that the creation of the Gaza Peace Board has sparked international controversy and domestic debate. The independent organization, founded in 1997 by former Foreign Minister Ali Alatas, noted that the board’s mechanisms and representation still leave fundamental issues unresolved.

“The government should keep open the option of a national consultation process to anticipate necessary corrective measures, including the possibility of withdrawing from BoP membership if it fails to reflect the aspirations of the Palestinian people,” ICWA said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, January 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to ICWA, the Gaza Peace Board proposed by Trump does not adequately represent the interests of key stakeholders, particularly the Palestinian people. The organization also stressed that the board no longer aligns with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2083.

ICWA emphasized that peace in Palestine must not be dictated by the dominance of a single party but should be built through dialogue and collective spirit.

“Collective steps from all nations are needed to ensure the UN remains the sole legitimate multilateral forum for safeguarding the independence, security, interests, and sovereignty of the Palestinian state,” the statement continued.

The council also reaffirmed its readiness to contribute substantively in line with Indonesia’s longstanding position: fully supporting Palestinian independence, rejecting Israeli military aggression, and promoting a resolution to the conflict through a two-state solution. ***
