Indonesia–UK Create new Opportunities for Businesses

RRI.CO.ID, London - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto and the UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle signed the Economic Growth Partnership agreement in London, the United Kingdom, Monday, 19 January 2026 local time. It was on the sidelines of President Prabowo Subianto’s official visit to the UK.
UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, who attended the signing of the Economic Growth Partnership, explained in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 that the cooperation would strengthen trade collaboration across a range of priority sectors. He conveyed that the partnership also reaffirms both countries’ commitment to addressing non-tariff barriers, supporting exports, and boosting two-way investment.
Dominic Jermey also stated that,“And under our new economic growth partnership, we have agreed to enhance our trade cooperation in a whole range of priority sectors, such as clean energy, digital economy, infrastructure, transport, education, and healthcare.”
“And this new partnership will help us to tackle and remove barriers to trade and support our businesses to export even more and to drive even greater two-way investment. And we are building on existing momentum,” Jermey conveyed.
He said the UK government hopes the Indonesia–UK Economic Growth Partnership will create new opportunities for businesses and deliver economic benefits for both countries. During his stay in London, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III.
Ambassador Jermey added that during President Prabowo’s meeting with Prime Minister Starmer the two countries will also agree on a strategic partnership. It will cover cooperation in defense and security, economic growth, climate change mitigation, energy, and the environment.
