Indonesia-China Fosters Partnership to Advance Digital Health-AI

RRI.CO.ID, Tiongkok – Indonesian government officially partnered with China on Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital medicine, and medical device manufacturing. Vice Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavius, visited China to sign the Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to establish the China–Indonesia Joint Laboratory for Digital Medicine and Proactive Health on Sunday, 18 January 2026.
The collaboration is between the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the National Standardization Agency (BSN), and Xuzhou Medical University. According to the press release, Vice Minister Octavius stated that this agreement marks a step in Indonesia's "Health Transformation" agenda.
This joint laboratory aimed to integrate high-tech solutions into its national primary care system. “This collaboration is an important foundation in the development of a digital health system and the application of medical AI that is oriented towards improving the quality of services for the community,” he said.
During the visit, the Indonesian delegation explored AI applications for primary care and advanced Molecular Rapid Test (TCM) diagnostics for tuberculosis. The Indonesian government is actively prioritizing technology transfer to localize the production of these medical devices.
Octavius reaffirmed that this partnership is built on the pillars of health data sovereignty and national capacity building. By aligning with China’s tech expertise, Indonesia seeks to accelerate critical health goals, including the eradication of tuberculosis and the digital transformation of its national healthcare system.
